Committed to the service and care of the community we live in, from the 40 - 60 members of the Haines Volunteer Fire Department - Ambulance Company, Fire/Engine Companies, and Search/Rescue Company.

Looking for Volunteers

Type of Help Needed: looking for individuals interested in emergency response for both the fire and EMS divisions.
Special Skills: Training provided as needed.
Time: approx 3 hours (not including response)

EMS meetings 3rd Monday
Fire meetings 4th Monday

Wildland Fire Danger

Low - Sept 1 to Apr 1

September 1st marks the official end of the Wildland Fire Season Statewide, however burn permits issued by the local fire department may still be required. Check with your local VFD before burning.

Wildland Fire suppression in the upper Lynn Canal is the responsibility of the State of Alaska Division of Forestry in cooperation with all local Fire Departments. To report Forest Fires directly to the Haines State Forestry office during regular business hours (8am-5pm M-F) dial 766-2120. Dial 911 at all other times. Please remember that you are responsible for fires you start and be careful with all potential fire hazards.

Wildland Fire Danger is an index of potential hazard when burning. Be aware that as weather conditions change, so will the wildland fire danger index!
